Toyota is the longest running continuously in Canada for the first time in 50 years. The Toyota Crown has been part of the automaker's lineup since 1955, but it was never quite like this. It has Toyota's new hybrid system with 340 horsepower, a four-door coupe design, and even a color we didn't think we'd see from the traditional Japanese brand. Toyota is calling the 16th generation of this Crown a complete "redesign" - a sedan the size of a full-size sedan for most automakers, and introducing a new model is certainly a bold move for Toyota. The New Crown looks like a sedan but is slightly longer. Toyota didn't specify dimensions but said the ride height is similar. The goal here is better road visibility and the ease of entry and exit that SUVs and crossovers offer, but with sedan-like styling and efficiency.

How much will a Toyota Crown cost

A quick look at Toyota's official Japanese website reveals that the 2023 Crown will officially start at ¥4,350,000 including taxes, which equates to $31,399 at current exchange rates. The top hybrid will start at ¥6,400,000 ($46,195).

In addition to the right-hand drive configuration and the crown badges replacing the Toyota badges on the front, and on the steering wheel, the model sold in the Land of the Rising Sun is identical to the American model. It comes in seven trim levels, with a choice of twelve exterior colors, different wheels measuring between 19 and 21 inches and two drive options. Both are electrified.

The lineup starts with a 2.5-liter unit, powered by two engines and mated to a CVT. The gasoline stove and the front and rear electric motors produce a combined power of 234 hp (231 hp/172 kW). There is also a 2.4-liter turbocharged mill, connected to various twin engines and a six-speed automatic transmission. The total power in this case is 349 hp (345 hp / 257 kW). A mix between a traditional sedan and a crossover, the 2023 Toyota Crown looks very familiar from the front and has a controversial rear design. It's built on the same platform, TNGA-K, as the Camry, Avalon, RAV4, Venza and Highlander, and sports MacPherson struts in the front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. In our market, it will be launched with two hybrid powertrains, in XLE, Limited and Platinum configurations. The new Crown is the unofficial replacement for the Avalon.
